hey nico i just bought an 89 coupe and its suppose to have a bad head gas ket cuz the coolant its mix with oil the engine cranks over but wont start so my question is does the engine does this when the head gasket goes bad and if i do replace the head gasket is it just taking the intake manifold and exhaust manifold and pop the head up and put a new head gasket can i use the same head bolts or i have to buy new ones.

DO NOT turn the engine over with coolant in the oil...New head bolts are highly recommended with high mile KA's. But if there's coolant in the motor I personally would do an entire rebuild. Its like 400 for a complete rebuild kit (new pistons, bearings, gaskets, oil pump, etc.) and $20 for a good FSM. PLUS you get a sense of reliability after getting dirty with your motor.

OR you can swap a KA24DE 5spd for the same price.

well i dont have 400 dollars right now but i got a guy who is selling me a soch motor for 100 buxx with 88,xxx miles and it came of a running car so its that a good deal.Cuz if i do my head gasket my original engine already has 170k so yea and when i get more money save up i will try to rebuild my soch so i can get more experience with that engine. But let me know if thats a good price.

100? That sounds worth it. Make you sure you get a compression check from him though. Or do it when your picking it up. It's worth it to know if your buying a dud or not.

Your supposed to do it after the engine ran and warmed up. When its off just turn it over checking each cylinder, but I'm pretty sure you can get a rough number just bring a car battery and compression tester and make sure the the cylinders are somewhat even. I was just reading through harbor freight mag. $17 for a comp tester.

you can just change the gasket if you perge the water oil out of the cams and oilpump and gallys in the block...and good 120psi air compressor and tool should work..after you have her together again...run her with new oil for 10 minuts..then change all fluids ..oil...coolant..and then run again for 5 days..do it all over again and ya should be good...

BUT.....

If ya buy that block...make shure ya get his ECU allso and harness with the deal...swapp em out and then drop your old motor on a stand and rebuild it part by part with good stuff!

good luck!
