New guy here in need of some help. I am in the process of collecting up all the parts I need to complete this head swap . I need to know if the ka24e cylinder head will mate properly to this z24 block . Are the cylinder heads from the 91-95 pickup and the 240 sx identical [ junk yards say they are]. Are the time gears and chain the same size from the ka24e to the z24 aside from the fact that one is a double roller . I should be simply dropping the ka24 engine in since it bolts right up to the 720 trans.. but I would like to avoid the oil pan modifications . Any advice would be greatly appreciated . Thanx in advance . Ang.

i have heard that the head will bolt right up. you are on your own for the chain though. the ka24e head has very low compression. i am not sure what size chamber th z24 has.

Thanx for responding. I am going to pull my old 84 720 4x4 out of the dark ages . The mods are as follows ; A ka24e head on the old block with the 89-90 240sx intake manifold with the MAF sensor . It won't be as much as some 2400 's , but if all works , this simple little upgrade should bolt on about 50 hp . With comp at about 8.4-1 , this leaves the possibilities of turbo or super charger open . The timing doesn't concern me as much as the dish size difference of the 2 heads . Recently I have found out that the z24 head has dish area of about 11 cc and the ka24e head has a dish area of 2.8 cc. I guess I won't know till I try it . I am hoping the valves don't touch the piston . Either way ,their will be no love lost .Boneyard parts are plentifull in the Toronto area . Seems no-one is after ka24 heads for anything since the de is more desirerable and 720 pickups are non existing up here . I kow that this is not really a site for trucks so I will keep my posts engine related .. Thanx again Ang

man, post on anything(nissan related) you want! its cool. i am suprised to hear that the e has only 2.8 dish. i know the de head has more compression that is counteracted by dished pistons(in the de). my sr has a 45cc head with the gtir version having a 60cc head. the ka motors appear to be roughly(within 20cc or so) of that size. that makes me wonder if the specs you found werent for pistons maybe. just a thought since you are going to be spending real world dollars.

You now have me wondering the same thing about that dish size . I am going to double check my data . I keep all my paper work on nissans and datsuns at work so when I am in my rig waiting for a long time at some customer , I have some good reading with me . I'll keep you posted on this upgrade . I only found out recently that this is a workable combination . C--YA and Thanx ANG
