I know there is a post for the ka24de on how to remove the egr and various other unneccesary things from the engine. What I was wondering is, can I remove the EGR from my car (1990 240 w/ ka24e) without hurting anything. Does this benefit. What else can I remove from my engine that I don't need. Please help me with this, id like to know what all I can do and what the benefit is or if it will hurt something.

yes you can remove it, but you will need to fab up some kind of "plug" for your intake manifold and header.

I have always just used the egr mounting that goes into the manifold as a template and cut up a soda can, RTV'd it and bolted her down to the intake manifold.

As for the exhaust manny, you just need a large plug that you shoudl be able to get at the depot or any hardware store (ace).

It wont hurt anything to do, but it really wont increase performance at all. It may keep your intake manifold a little cleaner but as long as you clean it out every now and then it doesn't makea difference...

like candela said, it's not going to make much of a difference in performance and you'll probably get a check engine light out of it. but if you insist on removing it, you'll have to make a block off plate for the intake and remove the tube that comes from the exhaust manifold, cut it and save the tube nut off of the tube, then place a quarter in the hole in the manifold and then put the tube nut back on to seal the quarter in place.

dont forget, if you have to pass emissions, you will not pass with your EGR removed.

Actually removing the EGR will eventually damage the catalytic converter. To prevent this, you can either remove the cat or get a reprogrammed ECU that takes into consideration the lack of EGR system.

None of this is street legal, and it's not worth the effort unless you are always at full throttle (ie racing). Production vehicles shut off EGR operation when they are at WOT to maximise power, so you have nothing to gain.
