Ok I am getting a top hat ka24det crate motor. Right now I have a 89 240sx coupe with a autotrans . I am reusing the transmission in this build until I can get my hands on a manual to swap in . My ? is with the harness and the ecu . Can I use the ka24e ecu and harness or do I need a ka24de harness/ecu?

I believe you need DE equipment

i also think you will need the de ecu (does anyone know if enthalpy can convert an e to de if you send it to them to tune?) b/c the de has a few sensors the e doesn't have like a knock sensor

i just need to know about the ecu . Its not a big deal i am sure i can get the power steering lines for almost nothing. There is a junk yard near me with 6 wrecked 240's.

ok, well i know the pin-outs on the ecu are different from research for installing my emanage ultimate on my ka-e. this leads me to believe at the very least that you need to swap out the ecu, which can be found on ebay for decently cheap.

i know a guy on the ka-t forums who is doing a Ka24E swap into an s14 and he said he is swapping the engine harness so you might want to look into finding one.

And don't always count on junkyards i went to one when i lived in nj, must have had about 12 240's that were almost entirely stripped of everything useful thanks to the damn drift craze going on with every ricer magazine on the planet.

The only functional difference of the obd1 s13/u12 ka24e and s13/u13 ka24de wiring is the IAT/EGT sensor. The ka24e used a dedicated IAT sensor input which was replaced with an EGT sensor in the ka24de. These are both thermistors and use the same power circuitry.

You can use a ka24e ecu on an e or de harness, you can use a de ecu on an e or de harness.

To use a ka24e ecu on de harness you must wire an IAT intake box sensor between pin 8 of ecu and ground. To use a ka24de ecu on ka24e harness you must wire the egt sensor between pin 8 and ground, and also install the knock sensor wire to pin 27 (blank on ka24e harness).

You can run either engine on either ecu, with either harness (modified as described above). Some light tuning may be required depending on setup.

Currently the ka24e U12 ecu offers the most tuning features and is cheaper to modify for that use.

Thx a lot guys for all the help. I have not been a member long, but I have been searching these forums since 2000 when I got my first 240sx. Now I am on number 3 lol . I had two 92 fastbacks (both sold). And now I have an 89 coupe, soon to be an ugly, fast monster (no money for cosmetic stuff right now).

its all good dude. im prob gonna drop another 8 grand into my car before i even think about making it look good. so far my car has been in crackle can primer for about 4 months (except it was done right). I might actually make the car the same color grey if i can find it for cheap.

I'm a firm believer of go before show
