I picked up 95 hardbody, and noticed the engine was swapped with a 96-97 block which has the different timing cover. Question is will the obd2 distributor work in the 95 which had the obd1 distributor?

Well the Hardbody trucks never had OBD1. And no the distributor from the OBD2 96+ trucks will not fit the older trucks unless you have a really late 1995 that could have come with OBD2.

After a lot of late night searching I figured it would not work with the 96 dist. I am thinking of just drilling and retapping the timing cover so I can use the 95 dist. And not change the timing cover.

Isn't the distributor in the block on a K24E?????

Sorry, I was mistaken.
It is on the timing chain cover.
I noticed that 1995 and earlier has a different distributor mounting bolt pattern than 1996 and newer models.

It sucks but youd be better off replacing the timing cover to use the correct dizzy.
