i have a 90 240 with the ka24e. i pulled the motor to put in a new clutch, reseal the oil pan and the timing cover. after pulling the timing cover i noticed the timing was off a few teeth so i put it back to where it is supposed to be. put it all back together, readjusted the oil pump, dropped the motor in etc. started up but has a real bad misfire in cyl. number one. i put a new cap and rotor, plugs and wires, new injectors and rewired inj number one. i can pull the spark plug and injector clip on cyl one and nothing happens. i didnt mess with any internals or remove the head. im stuck and need my car back. the car ran great before i took it apart. any ideas will help. from one nissan fan to another, thanks.

Check the injector. Test for resistance.

If you changed the chain timing you should also use a timing light to check spark timing.

Just my thoughts.

i had the same problem. the chain tensioners for the timing chain are oil pressure operated. they have probably gone bad. your chain will acctualy skip teeth untill it is fixed. it may jump back and forth from working to not. you are gonna strech the chain it you keep running it though and may even break it. if you know how to pull the head them do it and change the timing chains and tensioners. it a pain!

dont know about the DE engine but it isnt necessary to pull the head on an E engine to do the timing chain and tensioner. I would be checking the compression as well since it is isolated to the #1 cyl. IIRC these are close tolerance engines and can bend valves if the cam timing gets off enough

yaeh the d engines dont have that problem. but unfortunatly the DEs do. i suggest you take care of it ASAP before you break the chain and ruin the motor

Hmmmmmm dont make me choose between the E or the DE that's too much for my brain. I could really use the KA24E, but I just noticed that you live in IL. Shipping from there to TN would be a small fortune. The main thing that I could use would be the block which is of course the heaviest part so if I were to go that far I would take a whole engine. I plan on doing some purchasing in the next couple months. I will contact you then and see what you have then.
