Hi I have a 1990 ka24e and the timing pegs on the crankshaft are broken and chipped the actually crankshaft. Previous owner put in a cheap pulley and looks like they didnt put it in correctly or something. My question is can i replace the crankshaft without pulling the enigine.

Thanks for any help you can give me

The only right way to do it is to pull the engine. It would be insane to try to do it in the car!

Yeah, and your going to need bearings, and main cap machining and crank polishing to have it be right. You cant just buy a crank and put it in.

For the briefest of moments I felt I was wiley enough, capable enough, patient enough even to attempt this.

Than reality came crashing down (almost literally) on me in the form of a stubborn flywheel, stubborn bearing caps and a veangeful rotating assembly determined to put my a** in a wheelchair deaf, dumb and blind and out of my mind.

A cherry picker, a somewhat remotely useful friend, and a couple of brews will make short relatively painless work of it.

If you could find one that is still in the car so you could see and hear run would be good. You would also be able to do a compression test on it also.If not have them do a leakdown test.It would be a good idea to pull the valve cover offand make sure the engine is clean inside.

You cant just take a crankshaft out of a motor and just put it into another. Bearing clearences, journal clearence and surfaces wont be the same.

Engines sell for 100-400 all day, find a good one, spend a little time. Then when you get it dont put it right in, freshen it up with new gaskets (including head), shim the lifter buckets, and new timing chain set and tensioner.
