The best option would be to make a custom cold air for your SOHC 240sx. I've seen it done, check out this guy's SOHC custom cold air intake.[URL=http://www.saltgod.org/joel/intake1.html]

injen cold air intake for sohc: http://www.2kracing.com/ - about $200 shipped. I got mine there.

hotshot cold air intake: http://www.southwestautoworks.com/ - much less. There is also a 12%-15% nico discount - think you should call them up to ask what the discount code is, I forgot it already.

custom would be cool too, if you have the time to do it:http://www.240sx.org/faq/artic...e.htm

I like injen, it's purrrttyyyy

I didn't do a CAI, although I was gonna, but I did my short ram intake as soon as I got the car, I couldn't stand it going ALL the way over the radiator shroud and heating up and being all... stock

The pics for how I did it can be seen at:http://photos.yahoo.com/ivandabrain2000 , under "Home Made Intake"

Total Cost was $30, including ebay filter, some piping (2.5 inch), and JB weld and paint. Work: 2 hours, and paint drying time.

Battery relocation costs and time are separate but not hard at all, another 1.5 hours of work (pulling cable through car), driling soem holes for tie downs in the trunk, and the costs of the aluminum bars at Home Depot, threaded 3/8" rods, and 4GA cables/connectors are another 30-40 bucks. But this is a mod that most people do separatly from intakes. So it probably shouldn't be added to the cost of this mod.

(I also relocated my battery to the trunk, and for a CAI I'd relocate my windshield washer tank to the drivers side of the bay, it's just rescrewing it back there and the line for the sprayers just goes on the opposite site, 10 mins of work)

If anyone would want to make this but CAI, it would take another 20 bucks for bends and rubber connectors and the abovementioned WW fluid tank relocation.

Does anyone have observations (subjective or measured) of what just a cold air intake (stock CAT-back etc) does for mileage, throttle response, and low end torque/horsepower on a ka24e?

I got a no-name CAI for my 240 a while ago and it only cost me $30. Although I used my own cone filter (Forza) it came with filter, lightweight metal piping, MAF adapter and tubing. Here iss what I have noticed...

1. low end torque suffers some

2. excellent high end gains

3. sounds much sweeter

4. I dont have any hard data on fuel economy but i imagine that since it makes then engine work less to get air in, if you drive it conservatively, you should get some gain.

A personal reccomendation: I gained about 2-3 MPG just by changing from BOSHC plugs that my dad put in to NGK V-POWER plugs. You can get them at advance auto for like 1.50 plug.

Just FYI, NGK is the only plug worth a damn for the 240 from what I've found.

I never had problems with my bosch spark plugs. Besides how the hell do you get NGK v-power plugs for $1.5. I paid $4 bucks for each of my bosch spark plugs. $16 in total.
