I believe that the intake is the same for either model... I know that Ingen and AEM make air intakes for our SOHC models. But personally I am going to build a custom short ram air intake for mine and it hopefully will have more power than the ones being sold and also be cheaper... Those are my hopes, not any realities though...

I didn't do a CAI, although I was gonna, but I did my short ram intake as soon as I got the car, I couldn't stand it going ALL the way over the radiator shroud and heating up and being all... stock :)

The pics for how I did it can be seen at:http://photos.yahoo.com/ivandabrain2000 , under "Home Made Intake"

Total Cost was $30, including ebay filter, some piping (2.5 inch), and JB weld and paint. Work: 2 hours, and paint drying time.

Battery relocation costs and time are separate but not hard at all, another 1.5 hours of work (pulling cable through car), driling some holes for tie downs in the trunk, and the costs of the aluminum bars at Home Depot, threaded 3/8" rods, and 4GA cables/connectors are another 30-40 bucks. But this is a mod that most people do separatly from intakes. So it probably shouldn't be added to the cost of this mod.

(I also relocated my battery to the trunk, and for a CAI I'd relocate my windshield washer tank to the drivers side of the bay, it's just rescrewing it back there and the line for the sprayers just goes on the opposite site, 10 mins of work)

If anyone would want to make this but CAI, it would take another 20 bucks for bends and rubber connectors and the abovementioned WW fluid tank relocation.

I'm pretty sure the cold-air extension won't work for the SOHC KA, as the Overboost Store states it's meant for the 91-98 16V, the SOHC being 89-90 12V. Would it really matter, or is it just not interchangable? Anyone know?

it should work.. by honestly.. you don't get a gain out of it... short ram isn't even short ram on theres... they best thing to do is get a piece of pvc piping with an elbow.. relocate your battery to the trunk and run a short ram right into your battery spot... its more effiecient on throttle responce but you won't see to much of a hp gain either.. cai and intakes just don't do anything

well they do do SOMEthing. stock intake path is pretty restrictive with the stock air filter not being the best flowing thing out there. if you shield your short ram efficiently and guide cold outside air to it (through some tubing from a hole in a bumper or a headlight scoop) the air entering the engine won't be the hot engine bay air anymore, and by default that is a gain in HP/torque. It's not much, but it is worth the work, to me at least. The low growl coming from acceleration is also a nice side effect. And you've correctly mentioned the improvement in throttle response. To me that's a good deal for the price. The only problem I see with CAIs is the potential of water/dirt/snow sticking onto the filter if it's not properly shielded. But that's a bad install. And they do have water dispersing inserts for intakes in case anyone is still worried.

well to answer the original question, No it will not work. they are different. if it can be made to fit I don't know how.
