I'd like to know whether my 89' S13 (167,000) still has the non-essential chain guide in place. I really don't want that thing shredding and ending up ruining the engine.

Is there any easy way of checking to see if its still there or not? I'd prefer not to rip the whole thing apart just to find out it's not there.

If it is there, I'm not afraid go in and remove it ASAP.

Considering it is an 89' and in that great shape, i'm sure it was removed awhile ago.

87k on my 95 motor, and it's tapping. If you don't hear it, and when you feel the valve cover, if nothing is tapping against the top, then don't worry.

Also, just pop the hoses off, and the valve cover off, and check. I've taken the valve cover off and never replaced the gasket, and it doesn't leak a bit of oil at all.

Check to make sure lol, but it's probably not there if u don't hear it

Guess I need to find a video of a stock KA24E at idle and compare that mine.

*Edit* Found some videos...I'll have to compare the noises. I'm pretty sure I'm not hearing anything quite that bad.

It not quiet in my engine bay, with valve tap and what not, but I don't hear a distinct "piston slap" type noise.

You might just have collapsed lifters... know as lifter tick. can be fixed pretty easily.
