I have a 97 PU 4WD. Dealer has done timing chain replacement twice after 15K between, for startup noise. Decided to do myself this time and change to a NISMO 270 cam. First NISMO cam dealer sent, did not rotate freely just sitting in the cam bearings. Figured it was slightly bent. Next cam rotated fine. As things got rotated a bit, had to start timing from scratch. It runs very rough. Timing light shows it to be quite retarded. Mechanically, I think everything is lined up both cam and distributor. I wonder what I am missing? In a few days I'll check everything from scratch. I see from an archived post that a person had put in a NISMO cam and the A/F ratio had to be remapped a bit. Appreciate help from somebody that has done this before.

where does you idle sit at? when you time it make sure you idle is where it is supposed to be. then go from there. (just in case you didn't know)

Thanks for the reply. Finally got my new induction timing light from HFT for $11. I was off by one tooth on the distributor. Most fun because you have to remove oil pump to rotate everything by one tooth. While I was at it, I got a combination vacuum/pressure gauge for $6 also from HFT. This way I was able to slowly rotate the crank to verify TDC on #1. BTDC, I would get pressure, TDC pressure was 0 as it leaked off. ATDC it would be vacuum. Little loppy on the idle but could be normal..jacked up idle to ~1000rpm. Got a check engine light..got to find what that is. Could be an artifact of the timing previously.
