hi, im planning on buying my first 240, the guy said it dosent start. He checked fuel injector spark plugs and the basics. He said it may be because of a broken rod. If a rod is broken how much do you think it would cost to replace it? and usually if its a broken rod it requires a new block. I can do the job my self how much would you guys think parts would cost?

It depends on if there was any damage from the broken rod. If your looking into a stock setup you can get away with an engine rebuild from $500-600 if you do it right. If you do it on the cheap then the price of a rod and crank/rod bearings.

if your real crafty i bet you can slide the broken rod and piston out without having to remove anything else but if you got it broken that far down rebuild itand a broken rod doesn't mean ruined block but my with through the block (timing chains suck)

All sounds like BS. He would know for sure if he 'broke' a rod, so he wouldnt be checking for spark and fuel.

It really just sounds like the guy has no idea what hes talking about. Does the car turn over and sound normal?

We rebuilt to stock our block ,had the head milled for flatness and the crank checked (no re-work required) and block honed (no boring required) and it cost us about $1,000 here in Vegas.

New bearings, Rings, Oil pump, Water pump, timing chain kit, full gasket set etc. We purchased all parts through the machine shop as we trusted them and did not really know where else to go.

This was a total re-build with a differant block as when we broke a rod it left a 3 x 5 hole in the side of the block
