I just replaced the distributor drive gear, and im pretty sure i got the timing right. It will only run in one spot. It holds a clean idle, but wont rev at all. As soon as you give it gas it wants to die. Any suggestions?

Are you sure the timing is right on? Because it deffinately sounds like its not. I would double check. Not saying you don't know what you're doing but I've been down that road before.

Well im pretty sure i got the dist. drive gear in right. it was the closest to#1 on the dist. cap at TDC. It wouldnt run at all if i moved it one to the left or one to the right. I also tried moving around the dist. while it was running didnt make much of a difference. What could cause it to only run at idle? Every plug gets spark and ever injector has power.

Does it seem to idle fine? Did you mess with anything else when you did the dizzy gear?

Yes it has a steady idle, the spark wires arnt crossed or anything. Nothing really, that invlovles it running anyway. I replaced the water pump and thermostat.

sound like its not getting enough air/fuel mixture to run faster. make sure you installed it correctly. Double check the spark plug wires are pushed all the way in. Moving the distributor should make a lot of difference though, you should be able to force it to back fire with out killing the engine. I would get a timing gun and make sure its timed right.

yeah I checked all the spark wires, I think it might be that the fuel pump has died or is really weak, Ill get back to you when I check the timing.

Are you sure that #1 was on a compression stroke when you put it at TDC?Sounds more like a timing issue than a fuel issue to me.

Well I turned it over untill the mark on the crank pulley lined up with the pin.Wouldnt that mean that the number 1 piston would be at the top of its stroke?
