Okay, only signed up a few hours ago.. been reading my tits off. I would love to be pointed somewhere very helpful or straight told what you think of my situation!

Love my D21, it has being a true workhorse, I WILL NOT let it go, Ive had it for about 4 years now, had 330'000kms when bought with so said ''great'' service record (never actually sighted), I am believed to be the second owner. I guess you can say I have a heavy foot at times, and wont deny I have given it a thrashing here and there (with a service when needed).
Now just under 500'000kms(500k kms=310'685.6 Miles)on the engine, the KAe has finally asked me for a rebuild, the other day it began some lifter ticking and then "knock knock" says a rod, or so I believe (one hell of a skid though). I turned it off before to much happened, and borrowed my brothers Ute to tow it home. The outside of the engine is fine, but I have not yet opened anything up (probably start tomorrow). I like the KA.
Just based on all this what are your ideas on rebuilding, what to have a close look at on the inside and maybe a rough est.dollars I should look at for a budget if I want to possibly put some boost in down the track..?

Thanks in advance to any help/advice!

Welcome to NICO! Boosting these trucks runs around $1500-2000 USD. As for the rebuild, I say go for it as long as the block isn't rubbish. I have no idea how plentiful a used KA engine is in AUS. Rebuilding would allow you to upgrade until your heart is content. Either way NICO can help with pointers, advice and motivation.

I am doing my research for parts in AUS too, what you have said here is enough for me to happily start pulling things apart for closer inspection! As well as given me a good rough idea of what I'll be spending :)
Thanks heaps mate!

Alright so I got really lazy there for a few weeks, but I am starting to do something again, I pulled the engine out and am looking at this and that, the most of it looks fine... I wish I had a few mates to help though!

What do ya think of CP forged Pistons? manley rods... and idk what do I seriously NEED to go with them? what kind of injectors or fuel rail or whatever, and if the pistions in there now are 89mm do i get 89 or will 89.5 fit??
also what brand makes the best gaskets??
Thanks to whoever can help
