As we all know, living in California sucks because we don't have the option to (legally) swap in the SR20DET. But we do have the option of turbocharging our KA's...if they are '95s or newer. Unfortunately some of us have older 240's like I do, so my question is: Is it possible/legal to get a KA24DE from '95-up, slap on a legal turbo kit and swap it into an S13 chassis? Will there be any fitment/ legality issues? Thanks for your time

As far as I know....there is NO legal turbo kit...now I could be wrong... but that is form what I learned. you may also want to look in the Turbo KA section and also try doing a search. We have talked abotu this kind of stuff a lot in the past...

There are no CARB legal kits available for the KA yet. Greddy has one in development, but don't hold your breath. It's been on the R&D car for about 3 years and they are still lagging. I have heard a rumor just this weekend that HKS may look at trying to do a kit again. Only a rumor, and who knows if they would even look at getting CARB certification.

As far as using a 95+ motor in an S13 and using a CARB legal, kit, yes, that would be fine, if a CARB legal kit does come out, and you need to get it approved by a referee. You will need to use all emissions equipment and the ECU from the S14 motor.

There are no legal turbo kits for the 240sx. Greddy's suppose to release one "this fall".

I thought the turbo kits available for the 240's are good for ka24de engines, so it could be used in any model as long as its a dual cam engine. If that's the case, the kits can be slapped onto any of the 240 with a de engine.

Besides, who actually smogs their turbo'd car the legal way?

I want a legal kit too, but it's not really for smog, anyone can get their car smogged with just a bit of money. It's those peskey porkers that stop everyone at the street races and look under their hood.

If I had an SR I would have to not go racing as much, or keep it to the track, which I don't like. With a CARB legal kit I could at least in a few days make the kit seem legal or whatever (remobe boost controller/replace kit's injectors). Because usually the power you get from a street legal turbo kit sux.

With an SR if you get caught you'd have to swap a KA back in it then get that approved then put the SR back!!!! No way..

David.
