How many miles is it still safe to turbo the KA? I almost have 117,000 on my 95. Is that way too much if i get a turbo kit? Would be be a good idea to get a fresher engine first or way til mines blows with the turbo? This is why im thinkin of goin with the SR20 low miles.

If you bought your car new and you have alot of high way miles then I think that turboing would be fine. If you have alot of short trips w/o warm up time then there will be engine damage and the SR is probably the way to go. If you raced your 240sx then SR. If you feel you treated your engine right and it is in good condition then Turbo KA. If you are going to rebuild with internals then the Turbo Ka would be great. If you are looking for alot of power anyways then you will probably replace interanls anyways so Turbo ka would be good. So if ka is in good condition or you are rebuilding it=turbo if it ins't in good condition=SR.

it all depends on what you want I was thinking about the sr20 but I fell in love with the KA so I opted to have my engine redone. I had a 146000 miles on my car when I decide to go turbo so I pulled the engine and had the cylynderhoned out new piston riings put in had the head completely rebuilt and had it ported and polished had the crank polished and oil holes drilled out and had the pistons and rods shot peened. All that cost me about 1600. So if you want to Keep the KA I would recommend getting your engine redone. I mean if your going to build a turbo car you might as well do it right the first time. I would aslo opt for the forged pistons and rods if I had to go back and do it again I would pay the extra to put in new pistons and rods. I will probably eventually end up pulling my motor again to put in the rods and pistons.

i figured that wouldve costed more than that, maybe i will have mined pulled out pretty soon.how much would a full rebuild and port and polish cost?

If you don't mind swapping the KA for a fresher used one you can find them cheap. With the durability of the KA I'm sure a your engine would last for quite a while and a rebuild of swap would be what you'll do later.

i think as long as you took good care of your car and changed fluids and filters you'll be fine i am runnig SOHC ka-et with 214k miles and it is faster than sr20 ,s15, 300zxtt and only boosting 10pis

Yeah... NICO members' noobish pasts come back to haunt us!

Try searching venerable members' oldest posts, and you'll see how little they all knew when they started, but more importantly, it shows how much they've learned over the years.

I have 166k on mine. Timing chain rattles compression between cylinders is off about 10psi difference. I am not worried about it at all. I decided to experiment on a old worn engine. That way if I make a mistake oh well rebuild time. If I make a mistake on a rebuilt motor then I would be upset. So far I am glad I went this route. I have learned alot and I am not worried about making a mistake. With that being said this is not my daily driver. I have learned over the years it is better to have a daily driver and a weekend car then to make your daily driver a weekend warrior.

No doubt..this is a thread that shows just how far we can come with a group of knowledgeable people willing to help one another out. Structure went from asking the most basic of questions to answering in depth how to tune your own fuel ratio questions now. It just goes to show that we all start somewhere.

Kinda makes me all teary eyed...heh.
