im rebuilding the motor but what compression ratio should i do for a safe and very reliable high horsepower setup?

my power needs are 300hp daily, and 450hp max,im going to be using the jgs starter kit for my turbo setup. is that starter kit good for 300hp at 8psi? i know the kit is good for up to 450hp. eagle rods, 740cc injectors etc..should i drop the compression for it to be more reliable?? thanx

I've seen people use 8.8:1 and 9.0:1 usedd a lot I used 9:1 wiesco my self. stock is 9.5:1 and i did 300 whp reliably on stock. so i say 9:1 for your power goals. good luck with your build !

On my stock 170,000 mile motor, i put down 236hp and 250tq to the wheels with a jgs kit @ 8-9 psi. t3/to4e .48 a/r. I have a/c p/s I just did egr block off. I have since installed the 12psi spring and it pulls so much harder.....I havent dyno'd it at 12 psi but it feels like im on the threshold of 300whp.

Reliability is where your tuneing comes in, and it is most important for reliability !!!!!

ok thats good. so you got 236hp & 250tq using the .48 a/r, i am going to be using the .64 a/r.

but what is the difference?

The .48 a/r is a smaller turbine housing causing faster spool at lower rpms. The .64 a/r will have a better mid range than the .48. As for the over all power differance, I'm not sure...*edit*I forgot to mention that i'm using 550c injectors.

Here's my .02 on building engines.

If you're going to spend the money on building the motor, then you might as well aim for something more then 300whp. Because any decent KA can gen up 300whp all day for years if done correctly. Correctly being a conservative tune and a healthy amount of boost.

So since you have the internals being done, lets just aim for 420whp and settle for whatever we get knowing that when the time comes, you can increase the power safely without having to buy new crap. I'd use any compression rating in the 8's for pistons. Realize that lowering compression allows you to run more boost safely without detonation. So be prepared to run some decent amounts of boost. Say over 14psi but under 25.

The T3/TO4E in .48 or .63 AR is the turbo you're going to want to use. The .48 tops out at just over 400whp with less lag then the .63 version. So I'm gonna assume you don't want any additional lag.

So the T3/TO4E with a 50trim compressor wheel and a .48AR hotside. Match that with a decent rom tune and 72lb fuel injectors, 300ZX MAF etc and you have a recipe for serious fun.

which pistons would you guys recommend for a compression ratio it the 8's? mabe 8:9 or 8:8? yeah im going to be using the .63 version, its capable of more power, so more reliability.

I like Ross pistons personally...they come in 8.8 and 8.5 IIC.

im only seeing the 8:5 ratio with ross pistons.

would that be the route i would want to go. or is that to low?

what is the difference of a reverse dome,. etc?
