I bought this 93 240sx, I noticed whenever I tried starting the car it took about 30sec to a minute of turning over before the car started. Once it started it would idle really low (450-500rpm) then come up after 5 sec- 10sec. Also pumping the gas pedal repeatedly helps with start up. Anyhow recently I decided to degrease the motor then hosed it off while the car was running, Left it idling till it dried off. The car started after about 3 minutes of trying and ran the day after but this time with a misfire. When the gas pedal was depressed the car would cut off.

I am at a real loss. I have done some preliminary diagnosis.

1. I checked for spark, pulled the plug wires checked each one for spark with a good spark plug, spark is evident and appears strong. However I noticed that the spark plug wells were filled with oil, the plugs were covered with oil even on the threads. I changed out the valve cover gasket and sprayed some starter fluid in there before i put in new plugs.

2. I checked the ignition timing, it is perfect, Tried starting it, but all I get is the car turning over with light burping/back fire sound from the exhaust almost like it want to start.

3. The fuel pump is pumping fuel, while turning over and ignition on. Fuel and spark is there.

Still at a loss, please help any suggestions??????????

I have had problems with water entering the connector on the tps before after degreasing some cars. If you have a multimeter check the voltage coming out of the tps and look at the connector. Also check out the MAF and the coolant temp sensor connectors and on the temp sensor check the resistance. The resistance should be about 2100-2900 ohms at 68 degrees fahrenheit and will increase as the temp lowers so it should be over that if the car has been sitting this time of year
