I'm 16 just got this 240 about a week and a half ago for the first car. Friday on the way home from work the car blew a heater hose and all the fluid must have leaked out of it and I didn't notice the temp. gauge was pegged till my dad looked over and pointed it out. So pulled the car over on the freeway and got it towed to a shop . They replaced all the hoses. Got it all back together and the car still kept overheated. So then they replaced: the fan clutch assembly, 2 different new thermostats, all the belts, the radiator cap, new water pump, cleaned out the radiator, bled the air out of the system multiple times, Put die in to see if the head gasket was blown and it showed no signs of being blown, but it still kept overheating.

So today they called and said it will idle fine run on the street fine but it seems to overheat on the freeway so they told us to come pick it up that they had no idea what else to do with it that they tried everything and replaced everything they could.

On the way drive home from the shop my dad thought we should take it on the freeway to reproduce the problem. As soon as the car took the curve to get onto the onramp the temp. gauge instantly pegged, but when the car went back to going straight again the needle intantly fell straight back down to where it should be. So it drove fine on the freeway except for on sharp curves.

It also seems to be pushing all the coolant into the overflow.

What could it be?

Something the shop should have done, but may not have....BLEED THE AIR from the system. If you have air pockets trapped, especially at the temperature sensor, it is going to read hot as hell. On a cold engine, pull the radiator cap, and start the engine and slowly add fluid. Let it circulate around. It also might help to remove one of the upper hoses, (upper heater hose maybe?), which will let air escape as the fluid circulates.

Good luck.

Not that it would necessarily help, but you could upgrade the Radiator to an aftermarket aluminum and add electric fans. These things just run cooler. People have fans stop working at events and the rad still keeps the motor cool.

The mechanic told us he bled the system like 3 times, but me and my dad are gunna try it again later tonight. Could an air gap also be causing it to push coolant into the overflow? Or could that be a head gasket issue?

thanks for everyone helping out.

Pushing into the overflow is most likely a headgasket, or a clog. Try going on a big hill, with the front end up. Pop the rad cap,(when its cool of course) and start the car. Fill it up, and put your heater on high. And top off till the motor reads warm, and takes no more fluid. If the fluid bubbles out of your rad, its a headgasket.

Yeah, depending how long you kept driving with no fluid, you could have easily damaged the head gasket & warped the head. It doesn't take long.

Car is running smooth as can be. If it had a blown headgasket would it run normal or at least run rough?

Usually doesn't change the way it drives, unless it's shooting out fluid.

White smoke out the exhaust is another sign of a bag HG, same with coolent in your oil and or oil in your coolent.

Also, did they use an OEM therm stat or is it just a generic one. If you take the coolent neck off and see the thermostat, there should be a jiggle valve facing up (there is a walk-thru in the tech section). Bleeding the system is critical, so make sure it is done properally.
