My timing chain is clicking, and I just took off the valve cover to see if it was the upper chain. The chain itself is very tight and seems to have zero slack in it. Which guide is not needed and can be removed?

Sorry, I was out putting the valve cover back on.

I have a 1991 Nissan 240sx SE Hatchback with 94,000 miles on it. I do have the factory service manual and a Chiltons manual for it.

It turned out that the lower chain is also rattling, so it looks like it is time for a timing chain job. Dosen't look to be too hard, just VERY time consuming. Who else here has done this job themselves, and are there any difficulties I will run into?

I have been lurking here for about a year, and got the car 2 months ago.

there are several threads addressing that job on that car.you should be able to find an answer to just about any question you have on that job by searching for past threads on the install.

BTW welcome to nico.

Some of the parts you'll need:

- Tensioner Bolts - Upper/Lower Tensioners - Guides (get the updated metal guides!) - Chains (Upper/Lower) - Loctite - Valve Cover Gasket - Silicon Sealant - Oil Pan Gasket

Can't think of everything but that should be a good chunk of it.
