Hello,My 1991 hatch has been idling rough.I decided to swap the plug wires, cap, button and plugs. It hasn't started since.

I have always used OEM Nissan parts. I went to the local auto discount store.I put all the parts in and the car won't start. It turns over, yet never fires exhaust note one !

The 3rd party plug wires really sucked for fitment.I backed those out first. Then backed out the cap and tried backing out the rotor button. I broke the oem Nissan button.

So I had no change even after backing out the plugs.

# 1. I went to the Nico forums and followed the thread for KA timing. http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=161707 This put my mind at ease about the timing. I marked te 6 timing "ticks" on the harmonic dampner with white paint. When the engine is at the TDC top dead center tick,my rotor button lines up with position #1 on the cap.

#2 I got my FLUKE METER out and measured +12 VDC at both ends of the coil wire.

#3 I grabbed one of the plug wires and plugged an NGK plug into it. I had my 22yr old UCF Alum hold it to a bolt under the hood while I cranked it over and we got a SPAR

Let's recap. The car fired until I replaced the distributor cap, rotor button, wires and plugs. I backed out have the OEM wires and CAP back on there. The OEM "button" was brittle and broke.Monday August 4. I pulled the plugs out and put another new set in today. The plugs did smell of gas. I checked the fuel pump fuse up there next to the fuse pump relay.Turns over great yet no ignition.I broke the FLUKE meter out again and got 12VDC on both ends of the coil wire. I got those noisy *** ALTIMA fans on there. So I cant hear the fuel pump come on.I am tempted to disconnect the altima fans tomorrow.

The car ran until I replaced the CAP,WIRES, and ROTOR BUTTON,as well as the PLUGS. I've done this before albeit never anything but genuine NISSAN Parts. I should pull the ECU codes.

thanks220k miles on an S13 in Orlando,FloridaBob [email protected]@ngc.com

Yeah,

I didn't touch the distributor. I pulled a 55 and a 34 off the ecu.I backed out the cap and the wires. The rotor button(nissan) was brittle and broke. I contacted the local Nissan Dealer for an oem cap and rotor. It takes three or four days to get one to Winter Park,Florida.

I went back this afternoon and tried again.Pulled a 55,good to go !Still wont fire..plugs spark, timing is good, smell gas on plugs.

I will need the NISSAN oem cap and rotor(3 day wait or not).

thanks53 yr old S13 driver..Bob

Yeah check the cables order

SO unhook the fuel feed line, and see if ur getting fuel to the front, then check if ur getting spark, if u have those 2 things.... it should start, at least TRY to start, could be cable order or spark plugs (maybe u broke one of the new ones? something is wrong RECHECK)

No spark? could be the Crankshaft position sensor ive had a nightmare of misfires and no spark things from it

No fuel? well... no fuel pump fuse or pump :P

Hello,I checked the order of the wires on the cap a dozen times. I tried three sets of plugs.I changed the fuel filter in July. I checked the fuel pump fuse.I have spark and I can smell the fuel on the plugs.

I guess I should pull the fuel line off the fuel filter. Then stick a drip panbelow it while i turn the key and the electric pump should push the fuel out there.

Hello, This damn recession is leading to my damn depression! I need a distributor cap and rotor button for my 1991 240sx ka24de. Yeah..seriously I'm cheap, lazy and impatient. Did I leave out OLD?

I've tried a couple of the local Nissan dealers. The parts people don't stock the KA24DE distributor cap and rotor button. It takes 72 hours and about $47 with tax to get them both new from Nissan. I am a cheap bastard, yeah,I know.Car still won't start . Opie came over and looked at it as well.

We pulled a 34 code (knock sensor) and a couple of subsequent 55 codes (good to go). I backed two of the three tune up parts out (plugs, cap). I broke the nissan rotor button. I have tried two new sets of plugs. The timing is right,I get spark on the plugs, and the plugs smell of gas when I pull them.

no fuel pump fuse or pump ...yeah I will pull that fuel line today.Place a bucket under the line and turn the ignition on.That should indicate fuel flow.

Last ecu code was a "55"...so it should be "good to go"!thxBob..Orlando Florida

hello,I have the same issue again on this ka24de.It turns over well, but wont start. It acts fuel starved? I have a half tank of 93 octane. Its ran well over the last 6 weeks. Died in the driveway last Sunday September 28. I can hit it wth "ether"and it does "pop" and run for maybe 5 or 10 seconds.

I put almost 3,000 miles on it in the last 6 weeks. It has a little over 221,000 miles. It is averagung 24.5 mpg,and still idles a little rough when it has run.It usually fires on the first turn of the key.I believe all that I did back in August was run a full can of starting fluid through it and some injector clean/octane booster. Now every tank has been 93 octane. I ran 5 gallonsof Race gas through it right after the last incident in August. I haven't pulled the ecu codes yet.i will do so later today.thanksBob

How old are the injectors? Could be Ecu as well, find someone get them to swap with you to test.

EDIT: Oops sorry for bringing this thread back to life

Troubleshooting:

1) Fuel going when and where its suppose to be2) Spark happens when its suppose to be at correct cylinder -If not Look at the coil and test -Look at the wires and test resistance (it will be in the Kohms or Mohm)

just go to your local parts store and purchase a cap and rotor. Waiting for one from the dealer won't make a difference on how it will fire.

Also check sensors like the Crank position sensor, camshaft position sensor. basically any sensor in the engine compartment related to ignition.
