Transmissions will fail mostly when shock is put on them. Such as, launching on slicks at 3.5-4k in a ka-t . That first, and second gear his is especially brutal when the torque is actually able to be applied to the ground through traction.

Now, if you just have street tires or arnt going to launch hard, you should be fine. Its the 'shock' that kills most trannies. Spinning at 500 hp is fine, or using it in say, 3/4/5th gear. Putting 440+ to the ground on a launch or low speed situation is sometimes devastating, as is shifting into second.

You have to consider mainly the load on the transmission. If it exceeds 350-400 torque applied instantly and you want it to be reliable, you need a different tranny.

300zx tranny? i think mazworks sells conversion plates and they bolt right up. also, check into using an RB20 flywheel which will supposedly allow use of any Z33 clutch kit, yielding a heftier pressure plate.

I know this a old thread but I would like to know if KA trannys can hold up too 700 rwhp all highway pulls. No launch of roll under 40. Any ideas?

This 6265 turbo is going on and were going to max it as soon its ready to be dyno.

Yes and no. If your making 700whp I will assume you're over 500lb/ft of tq. TQ is what breaks tranny's. First and second gear will not last if you hook at all even on the streets at anything over 400lb/ft. So you will be on borrowed time. You can try it out but if you run from a 40 roll on drag radials(which you will need for sure) your 2nd gear will end up like this....
I did this with about 360wtq when i still had the little GT2871r on my SR20. I did run drag radials and beat the s*** out of it fot a year before it let go. It broke doing about a 40 roll against a 03 cobra(which I would have spanked) :yesnod

Ain't the SR20 tranny weaker then the KA tranny? So whats your guess, if i stay under 400 ftlb torque the tranny will last just a big longer? Sorry I dont know anything about these trannys and im learning a lot.

its the same internally, different bell housing. if your serious about power, switch to a 300zx tranny or a powerglide.
