Transmissions will fail mostly when shock is put on them. Such as, launching on slicks at 3.5-4k in a ka-t . That first, and second gear his is especially brutal when the torque is actually able to be applied to the ground through traction.
Now, if you just have street tires or arnt going to launch hard, you should be fine. Its the 'shock' that kills most trannies. Spinning at 500 hp is fine, or using it in say, 3/4/5th gear. Putting 440+ to the ground on a launch or low speed situation is sometimes devastating, as is shifting into second.
You have to consider mainly the load on the transmission. If it exceeds 350-400 torque applied instantly and you want it to be reliable, you need a different tranny.
