Hey guys, I've got a problem with my buddy's 93 240sx. We were about to piece together his motor with the new timing chain kit, but when we went back to put together his motor, the one bolt that holds the lower and upper chains together (I think it was called the idler sprocket) was stripped in the head. After I had a look at it, I realized the head was aluminum and probably pretty damn soft compared to the steel bolt that was getting threaded through it. Now we can't get the bolt threaded and so far we've tried freezing the bolt and torching the head without much luck. I've called around for a tap in S.F. and the cities around but wasn't able to find the bolt size m12x1.00. Closest we got was m12x1.25. I tried calling around local machine shops but all of them were closed or didn't want to part with their tap in that size. Any ideas on what other options to consider?

Is there no Sears around you? Pep Boys, Kragen, Autozone...maybe even Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Lowes...

I doubt they would have it. 1.00 pitch thread is very rare on any bolt over 8mm dia. even 8mm is uncommon.

Nissan dealership might have it. I had to go there for a new bolt to hold my guide on. It is work a shot.

Thanks for the reply guys. yeah m12x1's a pita to find. apparently only a few types of machines use it and it's a very rare tap/die. So I had instead a m12x1.25 used that to carve the first couple threads, then put the bolt through. cut up those first few threads but afterwards, the regular threads caught and the first couple didn't matter too much. Savage but got the work done. lol
