My only question at the moment is what makes the SR20DET a more desirable engine than the KA24DE other than the turbo and JDM status

The aftermarket speed parts are more available for the SR20. They are pricey though since they tend to originate in Japan.

Other than that, you named the only other meaningful difference. Others will assuredly say "higher RPM" , "better power" or other such nonsense, but reality is that an engine is an engine.

the question should have been worded as "Why is the KA24DE a more desireable engine when compared to the SR?"Thats the way you should have worded it in this forum since its a KA24DE FORUM!

who said the SR was more desirable?
