Ok so i have been doing some research for my build 90 hatch going to be swapping my sohc for the dohc and building/boost, i have been looking for light weight pulleys for the de and only seem to come accross ones for a particular year. Being that ive only messed with the SOHC i have no idea on this but are the s13 ka24de's different from the s14's?

Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated i cant seem to really find a difference myself but i might be missing something.

The s14 KAs have a smaller exhaust cam than the s13s, but other than that there are no other differences that I know of.

On the S14 KA24DE it has 232/232 cams s13 KA24DE has 240/248 cams.
S14 KA24DE has a different intake manifold than the s13 DE. You will need to swap over intake manifolds.
I believe there is something different in the distibutors also in the s14 KA24DE but I would have to check that again. Best of luck to you!

I have no clue where you guys saw the OP talking about cams... As for pulleys, I have read that the S13 and S14 use the same pulleys. I am assuming you are looking at the OBX Underdrive Pulley Set?

I think the above post is the answer he is looking for. As for the other questions, cams are different, so are the valve covers, intake manifolds, ECU/harness/sensors and the distributor workings. But the motor itself is about the same. Minor changes over time.

Thanks guys for all the responses, i had no idea the ka24de's were so different in the s14's but i guess that is what i get for only working on s13's.

Yes that is one of the pulleys i was looking at. :bigthumb: Thanks for the info that is what i thought i know mechanically its really just the top end that is different from the SOHC but i was curious about pulleys. I also found a set of OBX overdrive power pulleys for the ka24de as well but they are listed as only compatible with the s14 models. The odd thing about finding this option was that on OBX Racing sports site they don't have an overdrive set but on amazon OBX Racing Sports as a seller does? Curious as to if this was legit or not.

*edit* also found this from one of the licensed dealers for OBX on ebay.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-Powe ... ccessories

I figure if im going to spend the time and money on building this engine even if my whp goals are not extreme i am going to do it right and upgrade everything i can so if i decide i want more i don't have to rebuild everything all over.

In your opinion is it worth doing the s14 ka24de for the upgrade parts, or do the differences not really matter? Although saying that i guess they wouldn't of been changed if it did not make some kind of difference.

S13 KADE has better cams, so go with the S13 if your choices are equal between a S13 or S14 motor.

There are articles/writeups on using a S14 in S13 if you want to see the differences. Most usually swap S13 motor parts to the S14 motor to use the S13 harness/ecu/etc. Internally they are basically the same except for the cams.

Thanks I will probably go with the s13 kade, i was wanting to keep everything as close to stock as possible, but to do what i want without alot of custom work i am going to switch the sohc to a dohc. but who knows maybe ill call in some favors when i get to NC and get the custom parts i need to build the sohc the way i want.
