well i have a question, for my 91 240sx i want to get a new KA24DE (not new but like a newer one form a junkyard or something) and i was wondering if i could use my ecu, or do i have to get the one from that engine, also could i use a engine that came from a automatic car? would that just bolt right up to my 5sp transmission, if i put the clutch in?

also will a KA24DE from a s14 be just as easy to swap as one from a s14?

thnx in advance

I think for manual and automatic change over you just have to change the flywheel. Atleast that is what we did on our friends MX3.

as long as the intake manifolds are the same and its not obd2, you can still use your ecu with the newer engine. to use the engine from an automatic, youll have to install a pilot bearing in the crankshaft of the auto engine, then install the manual flywheel and clutch. the throttle body might be different too. otherwise, everything else should work no problem.

Its the electrical system that checks for problems on your car. THrows signals for engine stuff. I think. hehe

obd2 is OnBoard Diagnostic 2nd generation. its used to optimize emissions and control engine management. its a pain in the a** on mods. doesnt like to recognize them. you can convert an obd2 vehicle into obd1 though.

it should say under your hood on the tune-up sticker. i dont know about 240's but on the altimas, 97.5 and up are all obd2.

OBDI, OBDII, none of that matters...!!!

If you retain your original intake manifold, exhaust manifold or header, and only use the head/block from thenew motor, you'll be set.

Only stuff actually on the block is the PCV valve (change it if you want to keep it, or put a vent tube on it) and the knock sensor (plug is same for S13 and S14)...

That way you use the same TB, sesnors, harness, ECU, blah, blah, blah...but have a newer shortblock. I'd suggest swapping cams if it's an S14 motor going into an S13...the cam profile is better.

And for the auto engine thing...yes. Remove pilot bushing from auto transmission (it's stuffed into the end of the crank), swap over adapter plate, mount flywheel, bolt on, push in new 5-speed pilot bushing (much smaller), bolt on transmission. Easy.

Later - Brian

its a brass(or copper) bushing in the inside of the end of the crankshaft where the flywheel goes. its there to support the input shaft from the transmission.
