so i am getting ready to put together a parts list for my ka24de internals. i plan on putting in forged je pistons but i was wondering what kind of power i can build on the stock rods, or if they will take any extra power at all. this is my first build so i only plan on building like 300 to 350 horse, i also herd that you can get the stock rods shot peaned to relieve stresses in the rod and this will allow you to build some power on them is this true? any help would be appreciated!!!!

I'd look at it this way. Better safe then sorry. I would go get the rods too. You are already doing everything else, may as well add in the extra cost for rods, and then you won't have to worry about it. I'd rather KNOW my block is going to hold up under the power I want, then HOPE it will with stand the power I want.

Stock rods are already shot peened. A WPC treatment would be beneficial however.

The stock rods are good till usually about 350 hp, although there have been failures at that level. If your replacing anything, replace the rods. The pistons are NOT the weakest link on the ka's bottom end, the rods are. As long as your tune is good, stock pistons are fine. The stock ka block has repeatedly been pushed to 500+ hp, and every time the rods failed, not the pistons.

do you have any recommendations for a set of rods i am not cheap but i dont see the sence in going completely over kill at this time seeing as how i dont want to see 500+ horse at this time, would a set of i beam rods do or would you would you go with a forge rod? also do you know of any sights that sell piston and rod kits?

Eagle rods are good. I beleive that's what is most commonly used in 240sx turbo applications. Those are what I will be getting. They're around 300 to 400 dollars for a set. Some times you can find a piston rod setup for 800ish. Ebay some times has some deals to.

If you want a high reving KA you will want stronger lighter rods. Shot peened stock rods are heavy.Forged chromolly is lighter and just as strong.
