Hey guys, just finished my ka swap a couple of weeks ago, but my newly rebuilt ka has some problems with starting! When i turn the key, it just cranks and cranks and cranks till the battery would be died, if i just kept cracking. But i let off the key like i am suppose to. Anyway, i doesn't want to start so i give it like half throttle and it will start to chug just like hit on 1 cylinder. But it still wont start. So i have to like keep pushing on the throttle and like get into a rhythm with the chugging lol and i can sometimes get it started. lol So i pulled out my plugs and checked them. They pretty much had gas all over them, so i cleaned them. i hope timing is on because it does run when started and the motor is set to 20 BTDC so i know it should be on time.

Could be any of the following:- low fuel pressure- weak spark- cam timing incorrect- major vacuum leak- incorrect ignition timing

I'm thinking your cams are off and or your timing is wrong. You can't set 20btdc on a non-running motor. You can get close if you put the distributor in right but it could still be way off and cause the engine not to run and start right.

Sorry, i guess i forgot to mention that it does run, its just really hard to get it to run. The rebuilt motor has about 250 miles on it so far so its still new, but does run. But the motor should not start so hard. The Ka should just like have to crank a couple of times and it should start. I just need to narrow it down. Its getting spark for as far as i know. Timing is on because it does run when it gets started. I believe its getting fuel because i can smell it and it will start after a while of cracking. So im not sure what its problem is

Im not 100% on this so don't reem me if im wrong, but what are you guys using to tune these swaps?? Sounds like an AFR issue, VE mapping!! too much or too little spark a start up can hurt too. There alot of things that could be off if the tune isnt made for the motor...just a thought

Hey man thanks for your opinion but this is a stock motor with stock ecu and such. there was not mapping or anything. Im gonna get a new fuel filter and some new spark plug wires for it and see what that does.
