ok, i dont think ive seen much on doing this but,

Im hearing a knock ( i'll post a video later so you can hear), its a very hard sounding noise, but right now its only between 2-3k and or 3-4k rpms.

my question is, say i drain the oil, remove the x member , remove oil pan, remove oil pick up plate, remove main bearing cap, move all four rods around to see which bearing is gone/bad/spun, simply remove the bad bearings rod cap, (apply lube)insert good bearing, tighten rod cap ( to spec of course lol), re-install all removed parts, fill with oil, start engine. lol

that is just IF the rod bearing/s are in fact bad.

do you think the car would run normally or would it cause alot of problems because i did no honing, measuring, all that math bs lol.

reason i want to do it like this is because i don't want to put any money into this engine, i want it to run until i save up $$ for an sr.

has anyone done this? i need input lol, and ill take a few flame throwers if need be haha. thanks nico.

usually, when your engine is knocking, its time to go ahead and get the crank turned and start replacing stuff. new bearings on an old crank would usually last all of about 2 or 3 days. dont get an sr anyways.....keep it ka man and good luck

hmm thats what i keep hearing , but has anyone actually tried to just simply swap out the bearings and see what happens lol, im just not going to put any money into this, i dont care about the engine, just need it to run until i get an sr, so for a few months i guess.

i havent done it but if you wanna do it ghetto style then go ahead and try it. unless the crank is scorred or need micropolishing it should be fine. dont remove the main bearing cap if thats not the problem or else your crank will drop and your piston is attach to the rod and if you havent unbolt it , probably damage the walls and piston

A friend of mine spun a rod bearing on his Olds Cutlass,he dropped the pan ,emery clothed the crank, put a new bearing in it and drove for two years with no problems.(He was lucky!)

sometimes the "hacks" get lucky... I never have lol

just ask yourself: do you want to do it more than once?

seriously tho: I would never replace a spun bearing like that! I've only replaced worn bearings in that manner...

GL either way man!

well its not spun yet (i dont think) i can drive it normal, it has normal power, its just sometimes if i listen i can hear a faint knock on acceleration, and its not the chain or injectors ticking, i know those sounds lol, and its not valves, its for sure coming from the block,i just hope when i get it all opened up it actually is a simple rod bearing lol, how often to main bearings go out on stock motors? lol. also is there a certain size i should go with ? i know i said i didnt want to do it the right way at all haha, but i do want to at least come close to th right size considering it is a 150k engine lol. thanks so far guys, oh s*** i forgot, lol what exactly does piston slap sound like? i completely forgot about that possibility.

If it has a spun bearing and you can hear it all the time then do this to figure out where it is. Start the engine up, then one by one pull the plug wires. When the knocking stops you have found the one.
