Okay, so I know that the KA can be built into a monster. And I want something different than the usual SR or RB swap. I'll have $5,000 to work with total, and at first was going to do an SR swap. But I've thought about it and I'm thinking about buying a KA from somewhere and a five speed transmission to go along with it. Since my KA is an automatic, I'd have to do the transmission swap as well. My question is, is it possible to do a rebuild and turbo it with this amount of money. I'm shooting for somewhere around 250HP. More is fine if this is possible that is. If not, what kind of numbers could I put down with this amount of money. Any info or advice you could give me would be great!

How much of the work can you do yourself? If you have to pay a shop to do everything then I would say to save some more money. if you can rebuild your own motor then I say go turbo!

sorry, different and KA-T doesn't exist anymore.

Don't see why you couldn't rebuild it at a shop for a couple hundred bucks if you buy the rings, bearings, gasket kits and so on. Expect a full rebuild at a machinist to run ball park 2k parts and labor. Turbos alone will run a little more than 1k if you buy new. You'll also need the manifolds, injectors, fuel pump, ecu, intercooler and pipes to be made or bought. Expect that to fill up the rest of that 3k remaining in your budget. That's a fairly conservative budget. You can shop around to buy premade parts from guys trying to get back on the road from their blow ups or guys looking to go farther than they've currently got. So that price will vary a bit. Don't buy cheap crap though. You'll pay for it in the end. You'll be doing the install of that rebuilt motor and transmission along with the assembly of the turbo parts onto the short block.
