I'm looking to do a stock rebuild, as cheap as I can without sacrificing quality. Car is boosted but I'm only running 7 psi right now and probably won't go over 10 - 12 once it's rebuilt, so I'm not going to worry about forged internals. Car is a DD and I never plan on racing/drifting.

Yes I've already searched, but most of the rebuild threads are for high performance kits.

I'm looking for a stock rebuild kit that includes as much as possible; gaskets, studs, timing set, bearings, rings, valves/valve seals, etc; will also need over sized pistons.

Any suggestions? I've found a few different sites with prices ranging from $300 - $1000, but I'd like to find a kit that somebody's used and can confirm it's reliable.

Also, is there any chance it would be cheaper to call a dealership and try to get all OEM parts?

You might want to try searching KA-T forum or KA-T.org. They probally have better info that has already been coverd.

Yeah once I find a decent kit I'm going to piece everything together and compare prices.

Like I said, not worrying about forged pistons. Would also like to just re-use the rods as long as they're in good shape.

If you want a stock rebuild then hone your cylinder walls, get new piston rings (~100), rod/main bearings (~90), thrust washers (~17), and then all your various gaskets, which a full gasket set tends to run under 200.

if your already in there, it makes no sense to not go forged internals.

overbuilt FTW

plus, if you want to go .020 over, which is what i think you were getting at when you said oversize pistions, then you gotta go forged cause i have never seen any other kind of oversize pistons

Rings are shot in my first cylinder and compression is on the low side for the remaining three. Runs decent for now but it's burning lots of oil. I have to do something soon, I need something reliable when I start working again this summer. My budget is $1000 including machine work, so I really can't afford forged internals.

If you don't currently have any work done to the engine you might want to look into picking up another KA and then when you do have some money saved up rebuild it once but do it right. If you try to cheap out on an engine build it will eventually bite you. Unless there is something that's preventing you from using another engine, just get that for under $500.

Dunno why but I never really thought about looking for another ka to swap in. I'll definitely look around and see what I can find.

im sure you can get a rebuilt ka with a $1000 and just slap your turbo setup on that.
