hey i'd be extremely greatful if someone could give me some info on this.. i'm 17 and i work on my car my self soo.. please help!

i have a 92 240 with a mostly stock ka24de, just recently my car started idling really rough as if it's going to die, sometimes it won't rev past 4 grand and it acts like it has a rev limiter and bogs. you can smell gas sitting inside the car b/c the exhaust smells so bad, the gas milege is horrible... i think it might be somethign to do with the fuel injectors, or somethign with the electronics that triggers them... i put an ohm reading on them and they all read pretty close 1st - 12 2nd - 13 3rd- 15 4th- 12. when my car idles it acts like it's getting way too much gas and it's flooding itself. is there a way the electronics of the injectors is malfunctioning and causing my injectors to stay open and feed way too much fuel through?

my car only has about 75,000 miles and it normally runs really strong, soo i'm not sure what's up? any little information would help alot... please help! thanks again.-adam

Hehe I'm having trouble with one of my fuel injectors. Your situation sounds exactly what I went through.

Check your fuel injectors. What my uncle did was unplug the electrical connector to each injector one at a time while the car was idling. If unplugging one of them doesn't make a difference in the shakiness, it's most likely that one.

You might need a new injector, new o-rings or both. Me, I had to swap out the dead injector and now am having a slight problem with the o-rings. Autozone doesn't carry the right ones by the way. they only carry the lower ones, which happen to be a different size than stock. I found out the hard way.

If it is your injector, spray the screws with a lot of wd-40 or equivalent long before trying to remove them.

Also do a search for fuel injectors, o-rings, and leaky fuel injectors. I hope this helps

edit: oh and welcome to nico

fuel pressure regulator? never dealt with one before but might be a good idea to check on that...have you replaced the O2 sensor recently? i had a similar prob fixed with a new o2 sensor...test out your MAF too

Check your coolant temp sensor as well. I had the same problem, and that was it. Check your MAF connections too.

i had a similar problem with the engine revs on my SOHC it would turn over and die right away unless you would pump the gas, then it would idle like **** at two grandish and would never rev above 2500 rpm. It turned out to be some bad wires in the plug on my MAFS.

I hope this helped

thanks so much guys.. it's greatly appreciated.. i talked to someone locally with a couple s13's and he said he figured it was my fuel pressure regulator. he told me a test to run, soo i'm gonna do that today and check and see if it's my FPR that's the problem. i thought it was my O2 sensor at first but i kinda leaned away from it.. but it's still not out of the situation.

what would be the best way to check if my O2 sensor or my MAF is still working ok? thanks again..-adam

o2 sensors are cheap...i'd say go get a new one....check the MAF with a multimeter i'd imagine... someone else should be able to jump on that one cause i know i'd lead you in the wrong direction there!

ok guys.. someone told me how to check my fuel pressure regulator to see if it's still functioning properly, i just can't find where it's located. i thought it would be somewhere around my fuel rail or right below it, but i can't find it.. some help?

coolant temp sensor. they erode easily and make you run really rich. check the conections on it first, but for like 12 bucks it's worth replacing either way. fuel pressure regulator sits on the firewall end of the fuel rail

ok soo i'm still not completely sure of what it is?

soo i unplugged my MAFS and my car seemed to idle a lot better than it did with it plugged in, it idles around 900-1000rpm's but it doesn't shake and jump around like it does with it plugged in. soo could it possibly just be my MAFS that's causing the rough idle and sputtering out in first gear between 2500-4000 rpms? my car seems to be running really rich, spitting out black smoke from the exhaust...? help me please!

thanks again!
