About 4 months ago I finished a reconditioning of My ka24de because it overheated. Once I got it started I had no overheating issues, however I did notice I had a leak in my overflow cooling tank. I went out of the country for two weeks and the car set without being run. When I got back the overflow coolant tank was dry, so I filled it up. However on the way to work the first day back the car's temperature gauge started climbing above normal. I stopped to check, and found the overflow coolant bottle to be higher than when I filled it just 20 minutes prior. Once the engine had cooled again I checked for bubbles in the radiator, and there were none, however I did notice the radiator coolant was slowly rising. I am hoping that it is just an air pocket, and I will bleed the system, but if anyone has any ideas or experience with reconditioned 240 heads and any similar issues they had, I'd love the help. I did replace the thermostat when I reconditioned the head. My main question is if it was running fine for a few months, why the suddenly this issue?

Thanks!

KA24's are poor in the cooling department. Bound to say that bleeding it will fix it. I have ran into strange issues in using Vatozone thermostats, however, and always ended up forking over the extra ~$15 or so to the stealership for an OEM thermostat. Try bleeding it, get a Lisle funnel for future cooling system work (there will always be future work), and enjoy. Let us know if you have further issues.
