hey guys, a few days ago i replaced my water pump because it was leaking from the bottom weep hole. everything worked fine for a few days until yesterday while i was driving i noticed the water temp. gauge had risen all the way to the hot side. i pulled over and shut the car off immediately. i checked for coolant leaks and came up with nothing, so i thought it may be a stuck thermostat. i let the car cool down then i limped home.

so today i replaced the thermostat and took it for a test drive. sure enough, its still running hot. i dont know what else it could be. is it possible the water pump is faulty? its a re-manufactured one from Advance. i took it back out but it spins fine by hand. can anybody help?

first off make sure your Belt is tight enough/doing its job. Do it right now check it.

Make sure there is no air in the system.

or It could be the thermostat and you can boil it to see if it works right. You could run without a stat for a day or 2 and see if thats were the issue is.

the belt is good and tight. i ran the engine for about 10 min. with the radiator cap off, i assume all the air would be out. i already replaced the t-stat and it still overheats. i may try to run it with no t-stat to see if theres a difference. thanks for replying.

okay, i think i solved the problem. i bled the system for about another 10 minutes then took it for a test drive. after driving for a little while the gauge had risen about 3/4 to the hot side, but then backed off to the middle. i guess the replacement t-stat must open at a higher temperature than the original. i continued driving for about 20 minutes and the gauge held its position. so i think im good for now.

Good deal, keep an eye on it. Run it hard a few times when you are close to home(so you can get it home before it blows up) and watch it.
