id check coolant temp sensor, any wiring, vaccum lines that might have gotten too hot when u over heated. Did the coolant go over the place? also look around ur harness on everthing and see if anything is hard and brittle. Usally when someon over heats something really bad. Looming and stuff gets brittle which can lead to opens and stuff. BY heats up do u mean optimal temp or over heat???

Did overheating cause your hose to blow? I'd address that issue first as it's likely the case of your puttering.

The cooling system is very simple you have:

The radiatorThermostatWater pump

bang, there you go. Even if a sensor is bad, the thermostat is mechanical, it will turn on 160-whatever degrees its set for.

None of these things should cause your car to putter, so guess what's not broken?

What could cause your car to putter is a disruption in your combustion. Say, coolant getting in there? You probably have white smoke coming out of your exhaust right?

Car starts, is cool, thermo is closed. Heats up, thermostat opens, flows to the heads, in to the cylinders, *put put put put put*

Just a guess

my cars head popped once and a little coolant would get in but never cuased it sputter just over heat some more untill i fixed it. I jsut think coolant got on something or it musth ave gotten so hot something touched something andcuased it to burn or get damaged. Btw... which hose... lower or upper hose? it could make a difference imo.

Depends how much fluid is getting in there. Could be small enough to burn off, or more than enough to saturate the combustion.

And I can bet a million bucks which hose popped.

... the loosest one

in your opinion, why would it matter if it's top or bottom? What do you suggest happening if the top one came off vs the bottom one?

hmm well i think if the lower hose came off it would get all over the alternator and battery harness maybe to the some grounds but also if the upper popped off it could have gotten on the fuel injector harness which maybe could be he problem for it sputtering when hot. Thats just my theory that i would check where it popped off and the coolant sprayed too. There could be some corrosion or damaged connectors.

i checked all my hoses plugs ect. everything looks goodcould it be maybe crached head or gasket. funny thing is exhaust is clear no white or black. ps by heat up i mean running temp, plus overheat did not blow hose. blown hose caused over heat

a blown head or cracked head wouldnt make ur car sputter at operating temp to over heating i guess if it over heats now. Did u chec ur maf sensor, cas, timing, fuekl injectors see if they maybe got damaged or something. Maybe you got a bad coolant temo sensor. Those can get damaged if u over heat them but idk... i think temp sensor to ecu would cuase sputter by screwing with timing and a/f mixture. PLus a cracked head gasket and by that i mean like hair line crack wont allways show up as white smoke. It can just be building up pressure in the coolant system from the pistons pressure leaking out into the coolant system. I blew my head gasket and thast what i had and a warped head of course.

are you serious? What happens when a head gasket is bad besides a loss of compression. You get coolant in the cylinders. Fuel and coolant are not meant to be together so yes it will misfire my god. Op run a compression test and see if you are within threshold. 151psi is minimum. If you are at that measurement or close then replace head gasket and make sure to resurface the head as well.

.....my car never sputttered.. i mean iwasnt leaking like crazy into the cylinders but it never sputtered. Just over heating and a slight loss of compression but i'm no mechanic so i would like to see if thats the cuase. If so, then ill be damned...

you can do it your self just buy a tester.
