My buddy is building a KA24DET. He's starting with a bored out (20 over I believe) DOHC KA and he's buying A LOT of parts. He said just for the motor it's going to cost him maybe 5 or 6k. However, when he's done building it, it's going to be around 700hp.SR's are cheaper to build, but they can run a max of maybe 500hp or a little more. It's up to you whether you want a fast motor for a little less money, or if you want to build a crazy-fast motor for more money.Plus, EVERYone does SR swaps. Do something different to be unique. I'm building on a SOHC KA just because it's different than what a lot of people do with 240's.

SEARCH....stickies will help answer all your questions about sr or ka. you know that if you ask people on the ka-t section, you are pretty much going to get an answer saying ka-t is better and vice versa w/ sr section.

ka will make more torque all day but sr can rev higher. 2.4L>2.0L ka requires more research to get it to run right and last long. sr just drops in add bolt-ons. both cars can go fast, there are 9 sec flat ka-t out there and even one 7sec ka-t. there are also 9sec flat sr20 out there also. your call, think about the purpose of the car.

IMO it's about evenly priced if you shoot for the same numbers as the stock SR, if not cheaper for the KA. It mainly depends on what your wanting, Take the guy with the friend shooting for 700hp. You are going to dump a bunch money into it for high numbers like that SR or KA. You have to buy a LOT of parts for the KA because it did not come turbocharged, so you have to buy the things the SR comes with. Oh, and SR's are not cheaper to build then KA's, there more and built the SR can run way more than 500. One thing to look at is if you blow a KA you can get a replacement for nothing, people give them away. I picked one up for $75 bucks once. The main thing you need to build up on a KA is the bottom end, the head is fine for decent numbers and with some mild cams its a little better. I built mine for about $2000, machine work and parts and you don't need to. There are more and more people putting down some crazy numbers on stock internals. Needless to say it's up to you and your tastes. What ever you decide, do it right, how you like, and have fun. If you can't tell I LOVE KA's.... Nothing against SR's though...
