Well for starters I'm 16 and I just recently bought my 240SX and this is my first car. I don't really make much money but I manage money very well and I bought this car on my own without any help from my parents.

I was thinking about saving up for an SR20 but the chances of me ever getting it is most likely in a couple years from now.

Im now reconsidering getting the KA24DE and taking out my KA24E and converting it to a 5 speed to save some money.

Is this a good idea? To me it seems good and I'll be able to get it sooner.

Now to the people that have 240's with either one of the engine how would they say theirs is?

I just want to get an idea of each and see if its better to wait or just begin working on an engine now.

My advice? My sure your sohc and other mechanical components on the vehicle are functioning properly. Maintainance first! This way, you can keep your heap on the road while you save for your future plans...

Research all the available motors carefully because all have pros and cons and most ppl won't feel like re-hashing easily found (i.e. spoonfeeding FNG's) info.

Good luck and your car. Post some pics and welcome to Nico.

Sim makes a good point, but in my opinion get the ka24de. Why would you even want an sr20de? Are you talking about the sentra se-r engine?Do people even put those in 240's? I think it would be a waste since it is set up for a fwd vehicle and non turbo

well, sr20de motorsets are hard (seriously) to come by, if thats what you want, plan on it taking a while to find each part youll need. the dohc ka would be easier to find.even though you manage money very well, you're 16 years old...can you swap it yourself? if somthings not right can you troubleshoot? however long you think itll take you to accomplish a swap, double that time.and as far as oppinions, search it out...lots of sr/ka threads

There are RWD SR20de's. ES-7 has one. I think the op meant SR20DET, or I hope so at least. That's why I said go research, to become well versed in these topics...

If the car is mechanically sound, great! But you have other things to consider before the this motor vs that motor debate. Most ppl will tell you to make sure your suspension and brakes are on point before adding power. And I'd agree with them. In that order.

My 2 cents would be (coming from a 16 y/o)...Do the 5 speed swap first. Learn as much as you can while ripping apart the car to do the swap. Do your suspension first. Just stick with the single cam (unless it's starting to take a crap on you). Just get experience driving before you add power (sr). too much power and not much experience usually ends up in the news...Look at Nick Hogan.... (I'm not trying to be your dad either). Good luck with your car man! Oh, btw, what are you going to do with the car(drift, autox, drag, dd)?

I say good luck in whichever route you choose! Remember, though...the frustration scales of all motors/ cars/ swaps/ maintainance...etc...are from either one extreme ("eh, no biggie") to the other extreme("I hate my car")

This board has plenty of great advice, write-ups, and opinions. I'm not a regular poster, but I am a regular reader. All of my issues more or less have been addressed on this forum before and I have been able to learn my way around my car with the help of some other friends who have the same interests / cars..etc.

Be safe, read up, have fun! Welcome to Nico!
