I've read some past posts that indicate you can take out the lower timing cover without dropping the oil pan. I have removed all bolts between the block/head and the cover. The top of the cover will seperate from the head a little, but the bottom half stays snug. The posts I read indicate you have to remove some bolts and remove the oil pump??? Isn't that inside of the cover around the end of the crank? Am I missing something, or does the oil pan have to be removed on the DE?

Thanks for looking.

It doesn't necessarily have to be removed per se.

You just have to drop the pan, and squeeze your hand in there with a ratchet to remove the oil pickup line. Physically removing the pan from the car requires jacking up the motor a bit to give more clearance from the crossmember.
