Alright guys,

I've been doing a lot of research on the KA versus SR swap, and I've come to the conclusion that the SR20DET conversion on my 89 Nissan 240sx isn't going to be possible. BUT, I do want to try and stick a KA24DE motor in there, and turbo the hell out of that.

Does anyone know where I can pick up a slightly used KA24DE motor (slightly used = under 50k miles)?

Everyone I've spoken to says that in order to smog the SR20DE motor you've gotta get a bag of dope and find some shady smog tech to just pass your car, because otherwise it's not going to happen. Has this been your experience?

Anyway, until I can come up with some proof that JDM motors will smog, I say screw it.

I do, however, want to buy a KA24DE motor, and would be appreciative of anyone who could help me out.

Accessories aren't really a thing for me. As long as I've got a lower block with intact pistons, seals, bushings, etc and a head with fully-functional non-bent valves that I can take apart and rebuild I'll be happy. Just the core motor, I'm not worried about manifolds or alternators or starters or any of that crap. Thanks guys!

Check the Buy\Sell\Trade Forum.. they are being sold there all the time. Even if none are listed, you can always put up a post asking to buy one and people usually have em.

Where are you located? I actually have a spare motor that just needs a head gasket.

I'm in Northern California - Santa Rosa, about 50 miles north of San Francisco. Where are you? What kinda miles you got on that spare KA? Head sets are easy, and cheap.

Yep, Santa Rosa. Well, I actually live in Healdsburg, but I do all my business and shopwork in Sana Rosa.

Why am I going KA-T? Because you can't smog an SR20DET. Period. If I bolt on a Turbo to my KA motor, it'll scream, and that'll be more than enough power for me. Then when smog time comes around every 2 years, I can unbolt the turbo and reinstall all the stock stuff. It'll smog, be about 2-3 hours worth of work each time, but it's only every 2 years. heh, heh.

SR20DET is cool, I'm not doubting that. But if u can't smog ur car, u can't register your car. And when you drive around in an unregistered car too long, you get your license taken away. Yessir. That's why KA-T.

Newcastle82--

Have you considered turboing your KA24E? If you go to www.240sx.org and click "Installs" you'll find two turbocharged KA24E's there. They both look pretty good and wouldn't require you finding a DE...

(My 2 cents) -- The DE is a better engine and if you can, go with it. This is not to say that turboing the KA24E is not a viable option. Check it out.
