Hey guys,

I just got my first 240 and it was a bit of a project. I got her to start up but I cant seem to get it to idle consistently. As far as I know all the vacuum lines are connected and all the sensors except for one grey connector located near the battery. Looks like its for a sensor but I cant find anything for it to connect to. I checked the distributor timing with a timing light and its set to the second notch in from the left, but every other second the timing jumps. I have no idea what could cause this. Also the O2 sensor I have installed might not be working. Could that affect the idle. Now above 2k rpms the all the issues (except cam chain slack) seem to disappear. Anyone have any suggestions? Im really stumped on this one.

if its misfiring, i would check the spark plugs first; having plugs that are a heat range too cold for your engine can lead to misfiring, and replace them with the right ones.

I got eveything squared away as far as the idle. Now the car idles great. But once it warms up then it sputters and runs excessively rich. I ordered new plugs, wires, and an oxygen sensor to see if this has any effect. I did discover that the IAC valve appears to be missing. I have an electrical connector that doesnt plug into anything near the coolant resivoir as well as a large vacuum line with no apparent connection. When I bought the vehicle It hac no intake so I had to suppply my own. Could the IAC be why it struggles to accelerate and stalls on decel? I see it can be bypassed and Id rather know if thats likely the problem before I order the $100 part. Anyone have any suggestions?
