I have a 95 KA24DE in my 1991 240sx that I swapped in myself, and it has been running fine for over a year. About 4 months ago I did a timing job on it (both chains, all tensioners and guides) however for the upper timing chain I wasn't sure if I need to put back in the upper timing guide, since the kit didn't come with one, so I put in the old guide (not the top guide, but the other guide) just in case. After that the engine still kind of rattled but it wasn't too bad. Today, after I started my car after school all of a sudden it started to sound different, kind of like an electric motor. I've noticed that the rattle is gone, but it's making that whinning kind of noise, it's not too loud but noticible. My only thought about this would be that the unnecissary guide has been worn down, so the chain is not longer rattleing.Sorry about the long post.

Thanks in Advance.

The oil level is fine, I change it every 3,000 miles, and I use the $12 Mobil 1 filter, and she doesn't leak.

listen to that bodboy and find out exactly where its coming from.every time ive heard that noise, its a spun bearing somewhere or a bad pulley, but the point it electric motors sound the way the do because they are metal on metal. in an engine, that is bad.

I also had a horrible noise emit from my 91' ka24de. It was a grinding noise coming from the front, top of my engine. Considering the amount of care I put into my ride, I could not figure out what it was. When I removed the head cover I found that it was the chain guerd right in the front. It had broke off at the mount between the two bolts. After it was removed, I checked the tension on the chain. It looked good.I decided to just leave it off and check it frequintly. I have had no more problems and have been driving it about 3000 miles a month since. It has been 3 Years.

The electric noise seemed to have stopped, and now there's a slight rattle, I'm gonna have to check it out under the valve cover when I have some spare time. Thanks for the advice,
