Im sick of the old 90hp british cast iron lump thats sitting in there, and thinking about motor swaps. First I considered v8s but their too heavy and just not the right kind of thing for a light sports car. So I've been looking at rwd japanese 4cyl, and came across the ka24de from a 240sx. 155hp sounds like plenty enough, considering my car weighs about 2300lbs, and has knockoff wire wheels with 165/70/r15 tires. center-lock panasports in the future maybe, but who knows.

Anyways, I'm looking for more info on the motor and 5spd transmission.

For the engine, how easy is it to make the engine wiring harness stand-alone? I've done wiring harness stuff on subarus before (swapped a turbo and fuel injection setup onto my 4x4 wagon) but nissans are new to me.

What is the ignition setup? If I considered going to weber carbs what would I have to do to the ignition?

Exhaust on passenger or driver side?

Distance from back of block to shift lever? Is the shift lever centered or offset?

Thanks.

I can't answer most of that, but the exhaust is on the drivers side. I beleive the shift lever is centered, I've seen KA24e's with carbs, and with AEM EMS the standalone is plug and play.

I think if you have done a few harnesses then its doable to use the engine and its efi system and harness. The 24osx ka has a long transmission but you can use some trannys from ka's, z and l series motors. maybe some slight mods for the starter. If you go carbed , you would need some kind of dist with advance mechanism or digital ignit with spark curve capability.
