I'm building a Locost (Lotus 7 knock-off) using a KA24de engine and 5 speed transmission out of a 91' pickup. I want to change the fuel injection over to 2 side-draft Webers and replace the stock distributor with something that will work with NO computer or ECU.

Anyone used this engine as carburated rather han FI?

Finished car will weigh 1050 lbs and I really need to keep it as light as possible. Thanks in advance,

Jim

Caint help ya with the carb and spark issue but keep us updated on how the build goes. I would like to build 240/locost as well, but first I need to learn to weld. Here is another Guy's 240/locost: http://www.pbase.com/paulgreen/lotus_7

Hi Jim - There are several KA's here with individual throttle bodies, but as far as carburetion, you might be looking at some custom fab.

well a sohc ka would probably work out better if you want to go carbs...why would you wanna ditch the fi? eccs is pretty good... even in its slighty too rich stock form.

but since its you idea I'll leave it alone. I would try to look into a sohc ka then take a look at the truck manifolds. z24 cant say IF it will bolt up or not but IIRC they were carb.... but I dont recall off top of my head.best of luck. and enjoy the pep the ka has to offer...

I'm really not that familiar with FI on these engines. M<ight have to go that route anyway because now I find that distributor is computer driven too.........

just go sohc then to keep cost down, eccs for sohc is comming more and more refined so to speak daily, soon it will be map based from what I gather(I'm kinda out of the loop my sohc blew), but point is it has many nice feature you would probably like to have such as ecu based shift light, launch control(sure it could be a pit speed limiter),all emissions code removed for other switching outputs.point is it only needs a single eprom/zif or lap top/emulator/socket. to tune and be very effective IMHO. de is good too but somehwat more costly. Not sure if your even looking into this stuff, but want you to know just how simple the tuning of eccs can be,so you dont get discouraged to use it.

forget what this ^ moron said he is an a$$.

with that said you CAN RUN your dohc ka with a stanza ecu I just got mine running( I'm sure that I have some fueling/timign to work on but w/evar it runs like a scolded dawgy too )

point of the jibba jabba is for under 100(depending on your choices) you can be tuning either dohc or sohc. That my friend on the de is awsomesauce.

I would search on datsun 510 forums, or just datsun forums in general, your answer will probably be there in a neat and tidy package.

I do not believe i've ever seen anyone with a carbed ka24(d)e in these forums but i could be wrong..

Ive had those up there for years now, all oldschool stuff from long ago.

In misc gallery there is a ka24de 240sx manifold chopped down with weber/mikuni sidedraft flanges welded on, my buddy Rich's. He was running weber 50's on it, in a SSS 2dr 510 w/vinyl top.

I have a video of it somewhere....
