So I was driving today and the car slowly died from lack of electrical power so all things pointed to the alternator...got a jump, ran for about 30 seconds and died. Bought a new alternator, installed it and jumped car....started right away and died about a minute later and keeps doing that. Do I let the battery keep charging (which is on a charger over night) or is it something else. Also if it matters, yesterday night while driving it wouldnt shift properly for about a mile, like it was stuck in 1st or 2nd and the speedo, tach, fuel, and temp gauges along with cruise control all stopped working. Is that a related issue or is the cluster messed up and a different problem altogether? Or is it the VSS? Please help...thanks! Oh its a 95 altima that just hit 190k miles and auto transmission

The exact same thing happened to my 95 nissan altima over the weekend. I've had 3 different alternators in the last year. I had it changed last month and the same thing happened again. The repair shop says I must have gotten a faulty alternator, but I don't think I trust them anymore. Did you ever find out what was wrong with your car? I don't want to take it to the dealership unless it's as a last resort.
