I've had this problem for a while and couldn't find the problem.I can't rev past around 5K without it making a metal-like sound screeching noise.I've done some research and couldn't find a definite answer.Could it be the timing chain?Just thought I'd ask since some of you guys are 240 gurus

If your upper timing chain guide is gone and your cam chain is stretched enough it could do that. Pull your valve cover and take a look.

I haven't checked yet, but most likely I'm going to have to replace the upper. So my question is, should I also replace the lower while I'm at it?

May also be your lower timing chain and guides. Make sure to change the tensioner too. Plan on 200 or so in parts and a full day of wrenchin.

Probably more around $300 for the timing kit and a new headgasket.Should be pretty easy, just real time consuming lol
