ok, i am about to buy a ka24de for cheap and am planning on switching the head from it into my 240 w/ a messed up head. I have researched most of it, but am unsure on a few things. Can I just leave the new head fully assembled, take it off the block, and mount it to the block in my 240 without much trouble? Can the head gasket be reused? I'm not looking for performance here, just a cheap way to get the car running. thanks for the help

You will probably want to take it down to just the head with the intake and exhaust manifolds off. But you can leave the valves, rockers, cams and gears all intact for the swap. And do NOT reuse the head gasket unless you want to replace it soon after you get it running again. Be sure you torque correctly and in sequence! I didnt and had a coolant leak that i had to tear it all back down to replace the headgasket that was leaking.

if it is from the same year or close to the same year vehicle. You can swap it completely assembled. replace the head gasket and torque it as jnm said. before you bolt this replacement head on though use a straight edge to confirm the head is not warped. make sure you clean all the old head gasket off first. becarful when removing the gasket material from the head you do not want to scar/scratch the head mating surface. that could lead to leaks or low compression.

ok, the head i have is from a late 95 or 96 model, and I think is obd II. How can I be sure of this, and would that change anything as far as replacing the head? What else would be required to replace the head besides the head gasket? New head bolts?

yea I found an easy way. to tell. between the 3rd and 4th runner there is a plug that does not apear on the S13 bodystyles also the vacumm sensors will not be on the back of the head either that has been eliminated.
