Need some assistance,

I bought this 240 w a ka24de that had cracked pistons( s13 sohc flat top pistons)...i took it to school to do a rebuilt and installed used s13 flat top pistons....after the rebuilt i was using 91 pump gas didnt know i was supposed to use higher octane gas......the motor ran good for two weeks then after that the oil light came on and the chain started rattling...there on i knew i had low oil pressure. After idling 10 minutes the motor starts rattling and knocking..it got worse so i ended replacing the oil pump and i saw that the bearings had a slight score in it so i went ahead and replaced all of em'.....i thought finally im gonna get this b**** running strong again....i started it up with a 92 + a can of octaneboost and it idled good for 20 minutes then i turned it of, after i started 5 minutes later, SAME s***!!! im fck depressed....chain is rattling and i can hear it knocking on and off and it goes w engine speed....im not sure what to do next..... HELP PLEASE!

you may have a bent rod.

You might have to rebuild it again. From what you described, it sounds like there was oil starvation, which would screw up the internals.

honestly. s13s are dime a dozen.

i suggest to you a few options:1- buy a new car2-put in a new/used engine (make sure it has good leak-down test results)3-buy a 1jz and do the swap. a much more reliable engine anyhow.4-rebuild the one you have. everything new (rods, bearings, chains, etc.) have the head checked out and make sure you clean the sht out of all the parts. properly test all electrical sensors. and properly measure the block or have ti blueprinted5-(also, check for bhg... kinda common on the dual cam KAs)

once you've decided what to do and have fixed the problem, check your oil often. and do regular oil changes. Also... do the proper break-in procedure. you wouldn't believe how many rebuilds have gone bad because people didn't break it in right.

anywho... goodluck

oh i almost forgot! be sure that you're not overheating... i've had a sensor go bad on me once and it didn't want to tell me the coolant was way too hot. and be sur eyou even have coolant. (the proper coolant).

psif you have any questions with the rebuild, don't be affraid to ask if something doesn't look right or if it's out of spec and you wanna know if it will still be fine.

The forums are here to help!

i thought you can only bent rods from hydrolock or from a broken timing chain..but maybe those pistons can cause it. idk.

and if it was a bent rod, wouldnt it be knocking as soon as i started the first time?

yes, not likely, not likely

yes and no. sometimes the noise from a bent rod will knock.. but if it's not that bad, then it will not be as noticeable. could be mistaken for the normal high mileage dual cam noise that the head likes to make.

seriously... do a leakdown test on the cylinders... if your school doesn't have one... then you shouldn't be rebuilding engines there.

it has good compression on all 4 cyls. 200...195..195...200...i dont think theres a reason for doing a leakdown test...but can detonation cause the oil pressure to be really low?

usually... no

and i've had a generally good compression test with 20% leak on cyl 4so it's possible.

and if your compression is good... you can probably throw out the idea of a bent rod.

btw, do you have any major oil leaks?

you sampled it during break in? as in you were beating on a motor your supposed to be breaking in?
