Hey all - this may be a stupid question, but I just wanted to make sure. i am planning on building a ka-t setup, and i've started accumulating parts to do it. I posted a craigslist ad a few hours ago looking for an engine that needs rebuilding (no use in buying a perfectly good motor that i'm going to rebuild)

The question is, someone emailed me about one that was pulled from an altima. He says it's from a '98. Anyways - he says that the engine is "seized". It won't turn over, he bought it in that condition. He hasn't taken it apart but he says the previous owner didn't let it overheat, etc.

2 questions - is this the same ka24de (like compression ratio/etc) that's on the 240's ka24, and what would i be dealing with on a "seized" engine? what causes that to happen?

i think a lack of oil or bad bearlings causes a seized engine. also the altima engine is FWD so i believe it will mount in the wrong places

that makes sense. can anyone confirm this?

also, if it's bad bearings i really don't want to mess with it then. more than likely if the bearings went bad, so did the crank - and i don't want to spend the couple hundred extra on labor to get it turned/etc.

i have another one i found for $300 that's from a '96 240sx as well, but i'm sure i could get the one from the altima cheaper. if the altima one won't do the trick, i don't mind the $300 one. i think he said it just needs a new head gasket, apparently he's doing an rb26dett swap...cool

the motor is different from the 240sx ones, i dont know exactly what the differences are but i know for sure that the cams for FWD ka and RWD ka are swapped around. i heard that it isnt as good as the RWD ka. so dont waste your time and money.

Correct me if i;m wrong.........

it's actually pretty crazy - in not even 24 hours i've had 5 emails from people asking if i am interested in their motors. The last email I received was about one that was "blown" he wants to sell me for $100 from a '93 240. Hopefully if it's not a bearing problem i'll be picking it up soon and heading to the machine shop

Motors are not interchangeable, altima blocks wont work in a 240, simply.

Honestly dude, you pissing in the wind. You can buy a good condition ka for 300-400 and save yourself huge potential headaches.
