I am about to swap my 178k mile KA for a 75k mile KA that will be boosted in the very near future. Is there anything I should do to save myself time and money in the future ?

I was thinking of an oil line to the oil pan, but I don't know if I can put it on there and just block it off for now ? or ?

Anything else I should consider doing to set myself up for a turbo install ?

I don't mean anything like rebuild the engine, I've decided against that for my goals. I did consider changing the head gasket and going to ARP studs, but that might be a waste ?

Timing chain ? I dunno... any suggestions would appreciated.

I would think that if you are not going to be rebuilding your engine than the poss. for a high output engine would be low. Not to say it wouldnt be fast but its safe to say you wouldnt be makeing less than 300hp. In this case just get brand new nissan head and main studs. Im sure you could drill the hole in ur pan and plug it but i wouldnt risk it. removing the pan isnt so bad. Go ahead and replace the timing chain now whilethe engine is out and its not a b***h to get to. I used mobile 1 motor oil in my old 95 engine when i aquired it with 30k miles and when i just recently took it out and took the valve cover off everything still looked new. There was no part that was brown. For the most part if you want to do turbo start researching and saving now.~Sam

im nto going to be rebuilding my engine ...

im just going to pick up a good compression tested/condition ka. and drop good injectors and fuel pump and boost it.

but i will be using either s-afc, emanage, powerfc, or ems and tune it good so it wont detonate.

I'm curious about the head and main studs... do I just remove the old ones one by one and replace them ? I was told that to do the mains I would have to change/fool with the main bearings at least. And either way, what is the point ? I don't mean that in a rude way, honestly. I just don't understand the objective or what I'm trying to prevent.j

I have been researching turbos for quite some time now and I'm really torn between throwing in a Greddy kit or "rolling my own". My intention is not to make more than 300hp. My original plan was a complete forged rebulid, but I was told by someone that I really trust (Exar-Kun) that without detonation of course, a KA can withstand 300 horses... and that if I wanted more than 300hp, even my rebuild would have to be more extensive than I had planned. So to me it's diminishing returns or bang for the buck depending on how you want to look at it....

I really appreciate the feedback.

tunning is everything. in posts made by Ivan we were proven that the ka can handle upto 400rwhp without detonation. have you compression tested your stock motor? if compressioni sgood i would jstu keep the lower milage one on the side just in case. that low milage one could have more problems than your current engine. just look at slos13 210k mi and hes boosting 12psi

i agree with structure. Compression test your existing engine. It may still have good compression despite all the miles

My old 240 had very good compression for 180K+. I was going to turbo it till I crashed it. Now that motor is my backup motor incase my current one goes. I say run the current one unless you are having serious problems or bad compression. Nick
