I have an OBDI KA24DE in my S14 with 176k miles that I'm going to replace with a 75k OBDII KA24DE and I was wondering if anyone had any advice. Like anything that this would be a good time for. I'm also replacing the 5spd transmission at the same time.

For example... I've been told that I have to reuse my manifolds, so I'll probably take this oppurtunity to clean them up, etc. I plan to install a new motor and transmission mounts, clutch, flywheel and throw out bearing. I will probably pull my radiator just to get it out of the way, and I plan to add a 2nd electric fan. I might add a catch can just for fun.

If anyone has any "that would be a great time to..." ideas or any other input I'd appreciate it. Last but not least, if anyone has any input on how difficult this will be or any instructions on how to carry it out, I would appreciate it. My current plan is to hire some help but I'm starting to wonder just how hard this is...

Thanks in advance for any input...

Well, if you don't own a FSM, now would be a great time to get one. The reason for keeping all the manifolds would be so you can keep your ODBI ECU and not have too much trouble with wiring.

You might want to remove some extraneous emissions equipment while you're in there, depending on your states emissions requirements.

If you've really got money to burn you could replace the timing chains, water pump, thermostat, front main seal, etc. while you have the new motor on a stand.

If you've *still* got some money left you could always do that GTO Direct Steering bushing or new Nismo steering rack bushings while the engine is out. JSpec sells those.

And yeah, touch up anything that looks nasty in your engine bay.

I do have a FSM, but I don't exactly have money to burn. If there's something I can do now much easier than later, I'll try to work it in. I'll probably skip the timing chains, etc for now and the painting.

I will clean up the engine bay as much as possible. And I'll look into the steering rack bushings as well.

AFAIK, the steering rack stuff HAS to be done with the engine out of the car. I don't know anyone who's actually changed them or used that GTO part, so I don't know if it's worth the time and money.
